3 dream scenarios for the Orlando Magic at the NBA Draft

2. They find the best shooter in the draft

If getting another player who has ended up being as important as Franz Wagner has to the organization is a stretch, then ensuring the team adds the best shooter in the draft is the next best outcome here.

The Orlando Magic’s offensive woes have been painfully apparent for a long time now, and while Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner have alleviated some of that pain, the Magic still lack a pure gunner who can fire them to glory on some nights.

Perhaps Gradey Dick is that guy, and he becomes this generation’s J,J. Redick for the Magic. But Dick could just as likely fade into obscurity, or at least wind up in Europe, like so many promising shooters before him.

Getting this correct is hard, but the upside for the Magic here is the top picks rarely become the kind of elite shooter above all else that the team is in the market for. This player would not blossom into a star necessarily, and would instead space the floor and compliment Banchero and Wagner.

The Magic have been a bottom 10 outfit from the beyond the arc regularly. Banchero and Wagner are starting to climb the free-throw attempts ladder giving the team some good offensive push. Terrence Ross and Gary Harris have both attempted to be the two-guard who can go nuclear, but neither ever did so on a consistent basis for the franchise.

With Ross now a member of the Phoenix Suns, and Harris an enticing trade candidate for other teams as a veteran who can shoot from deep on a reasonable contract, getting a player who will max out as better than both would be a fantastic turn of events for the Magic.
