3 dream scenarios for the Orlando Magic at the NBA Draft

1. Another team panic trades a superstar

It was mentioned recently on The Bill Simmons Podcast the Orlando Magic would have the right combination of players and picks — basically everything they own — to attempt to pry Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.

Even if that is incredibly unlikely, more unlikely than anything even on this list, every summer there is a player or two who unexpectedly moves teams.

This time last year would you have ever thought Jalen Brunson would play for the New York Knicks? Donovan Mitchell with the Cleveland Cavaliers? Kevin Durant on the Phoenix Suns?

If the Magic end up with two top lottery picks, which is likely, then organizations in danger or potentially losing a star will become more open to trading their star away for a package centered around those two picks.

To be clear, the Magic should only look into doing this if the player is right, and the other team is desperate.

Trae Young and Karl-Anthony Towns are two such stars who may become available, but who the Magic would be wise to steer clear of. They do not want to end up becoming the franchise who were fleeced of their assets.

Stranger things have happened, and there are many teams throughout the league who are not where they’d like to be, and will consider a rebuild or reboot this offseason.

The Magic have positioned themselves to be strong favorites to capitalize on moments like this, and the ping pong balls falling in their favor could be the final piece to adding a genuine superstar as another franchise panics.
