5 offseason tasks the Orlando Magic should already be working on

1. Decide if they should make a free-agent splash

It is the biggest decision the franchise will make not only this coming summer but in the subsequent years that follow with this group.

We are approaching the moment where the Orlando Magic either go out and make a big free-agent splash, or they consolidate what they already have and trade for the next disgruntled star.

There is a chance that this summer is not the moment to do this, but on the other hand, what is the front office waiting for? That window is only going to be open so long with Cole Anthony due an extension this summer and Franz Wagner coming right on his tail becoming extension eligible after the 2024 season.

Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner are way ahead of schedule, and windows open and close in the league more frequently than we’d all like to admit.

We have already examined why players like Fred VanVleet and Trae Young may not be the right guys to go and get. Karl-Anthony Towns is another who rightly makes Magic fans nervous.

Somebody like Luka Doncic would be the dream acquisition, but the Dallas Mavericks would only take the nuclear route if they felt they had no other option.

We have seen this enough times in the past to know that the next frustrated star is never far away from making themselves known.

If that player becomes apparent this summer, do the Magic decide now is the moment to go all in and trade for them?

Or else sign one of the top free agents this summer to begin seriously competing?

There may not be pressure from fans to do this just yet, but the front office know that taking the next step in the most meaningful way in over a decade is something they will have been working on for a long time already.
