5 offseason tasks the Orlando Magic should already be working on

2. Move on from the fringe players on their roster

There comes a point where every rebuilding team needs to get more ruthless with their player development, and instead, try and attract players who are proven and can help.

The Orlando Magic are close to hitting this point, yet they still have a number of players in or around their rotation who they will need to either move on from quickly or else give more responsibility.

With the greatest of respects to Caleb Houstan, Kevon Harris, Admiral Schofield, Goga Bitadze and even Chuma Okeke, do we expect any of these to grow into a reliable rotation player?

You could make a case for Okeke as he has shown flashes when he is not injured, while Houstan’s scoring and Harris’ defensive effort have come in handy this season.

But we have already seen the Magic’s front office be particularly ruthless in their handling of R.J. Hampton, while Mo Bamba was traded after having every opportunity to impress.

The point here is not to highlight that the players mentioned above are not up to the task. Some have just gotten lost in the shuffle as the team has focused on other priorities.

Rather if the Magic have already shown a willingness to move Hampton and Bamba, two players who were added through trade and draft respectively, then the other players still on the roster are most certainly on the clock.

Look at it this way. Imagine the Magic had made the Play-In Tournament this season, and somehow managed to snag a spot in the playoffs.

Of the players listed above still on the roster, how many would you be happy with playing 15 minutes a night in a seven game series? Exactly. It is on the Magic to act on that this summer.
