Orlando Magic’s ideal starting lineup

SHOOTING GUARD – Jalen Suggs

R.J. Hampton deserves a lot of consideration for this spot, but it will be important for the Orlando Magic to have multiple primary ball handlers on the court at one time. As Hampton is better on the wing, playing off of the ball and playing in transition while picking his spots, Jalen Suggs provides the ability to be a balanced player of playing on the off the ball.

The two-point guard lineup of Cole Anthony and Jalen Suggs has shown both positives and negatives. Anthony is more of a score-first point guard and has played largely off the ball so far. It has left Suggs being thrown into the fire as more of the primary playmaker.

The game seems too fast at times for Suggs, which creates turnovers and leads to easy points for the opposing team. This season Suggs has averaged 3.5 turnovers per game to only 3.5 assists per game.

Playing alongside Markelle Fultz in the backcourt will allow Jalen Suggs to play more freely offensively, and having two balanced guards that can challenge any defense is a key to the modern NBA.

While playing alongside Fultz will make his offensive game come to a steadier pace, his defense on the perimeter stands out from this pairing. An idea of Anthony and Fultz in the backcourt has merit. But the defense Suggs consistently displays is a perfect fit for what this team is aiming for on that end.

The Magic have multiple combinations in the backcourt at their disposal. But the versatility of Suggs and Fultz will create new dimensions on both ends of the floor for the Magic.
