Orlando Magic starter breakthroughs: Jalen Suggs

This may be the most obvious player to break into the starting lineup. Jalen Suggs should be a starter from day one and if he plays to his potential, he will likely not relinquish this role.

Drafted at 5th overall, Suggs is a foundational player. This is what the Magic took him for.

In just three summer league games, Suggs showed the franchise that they may have struck gold.

In his biggest performance, against the Warriors, Suggs scored 24 points and added 3 blocks, 2 steals, and a few viral highlight plays.

Suggs overall stats in the summer league do not really reflect his full impact as he only played 12 minutes in the third game, but they were still impressive: 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

So far fans have been able to catch a glimpse of Suggs’ great instincts, both as a passer and on the defensive end. There is a certain energy about his play, something that the Orlando Magic have been lacking for years.

The shooting is there as well as he shot 35.7-percent from three in the summer league. If Suggs is able to knock down perimeter shots consistently, the lineup possibilities for the Magic expand even more. They could pair Jalen Suggs with either Markelle Fultz or Cole Anthony to create an interchangeable backcourt with multiple ball handlers.

At Gonzaga, Suggs operated with a second ball-handler to lean on, so this may be where he is most comfortable.

As either the primary point guard or in a secondary ball-handling role, Suggs should be a starter from the get-go. The Magic know that the key to their future lies with Suggs and they should waste no time in unlocking it.
