5 games NBATV is missing from Sunday’s Orlando Magic Day
Sunday, the Orlando Magic take over the NBATV airwaves with a day full of the best games in history. But there are plenty left on the cutting room floor.
Orlando Magic fans hungry to watch some Magic basketball — and actually see them win — will get quite the treat Sunday.
As part of NBATV’s offseason program, they are giving every team a day full of classic games that celebrate each team’s history. Some of the best games from Shaquille O’Neal, Anfernee Hardaway, Tracy McGrady and Dwight Howard will be on the air throughout the day Sunday. You can see the full schedule and what to expect here.
There are only 24 hours a day — or in this case, 22 since NBATV will air a WNBA game during the afternoon — and not every game gets to make the cut. There is only so much anyone can do or watch with that limited time.
And while it will be fun to watch Shaquille O’Neal dominate the Indiana Pacers in Game 2 of the 1995 Eastern Conference Finals, there are certainly a few other games of bigger franchise importance. Not to mention that are far more memorable. There is no way for NBATV to get every game involved.
Undoubtedly the games NBATV chose are deserving.
The 2001 near-triple-double from Tracy McGrady in Game 3 against the Milwaukee Bucks is the quintessential game to define his career.
Game 6 of the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals and 1995 Eastern Conference Semifinals were two of the greatest closeout games in Magic history.
Tracy McGrady’s 62-point game and Nick Anderson‘s 50-point game are two of the most memorable regular season games in franchise history.
It will be a great trip down memory lane. And Magic fans should eat it up (hang out with me on Twitter all day as I will be watching too!).
But there are a lot of games that did not make the cut. Some that absolutely should have made the cut and it is frankly amazing they did not.
Recognizing that none of the games NBATV is choosing to air should be removed from the schedule (mostly), here are a few more games NBATV should consider airing the next time they decide to make a Magic Day.
This might as well be a rough list of the greatest games in Magic history.
