Devyn Marble

The Orlando Magic’s second round pick from a few years ago has found a way to hang on the roster now. There is definitely a comfort level with him. But it is hard to say if he has taken his career too far forward.

He appeared in 28 games scoring 60 points and shooting just 29.6 percent from the floor last year.

He is a solid defender and is generally in the right spot. But he does not provide a ton of support offensively.

The reality with Marble is that every team, including the Magic, probably knows what he is at this point. With a non-guaranteed contract for the 2017 season, Orlando will have to make a decision on whether to keep him around on the roster or prepare to move on from him.

That is why Summer League will be incredibly important for him. He is likely playing somewhat for his job.

In his first game Saturday he was solid. He moved well off the ball and looked every bit the veteran on the roster. Marble scored 12 point on 5-for-10 shooting, adding three steals. He is essentially playing for his NBA career at this point. His leadership will be important.

Marble was extremely limited offensively in his first three years with the Magic. That is still very much on display in his early going in Summer League. He is still not great in traffic and dribbles himself into situations he cannot get out of.

He is likely the best player on the Magic’s Summer League roster. So his usage will be unrealistically high. Marble though will see the ball plenty and has to show he can take another step in his career to stay on the Magic’s now-crowded bench.
