It is hard to know what to really have expected from Brandon Jennings in the short time he was in Orlando. He was going to come in and provide some stability for a team that was struggling with a backup point guard. Especially with C.J. Watson’s continuing calf injury and Elfrid Payton‘s on-again, off-again injuries and inconsistent play.

What it turned out with Jennings was that his offense was incredibly inconsistent.

Jennings is a shot taker, if not a shot maker. His poor shooting overall was a symbol of that. There were games where he could not miss and got into a good rhythm offensively and then there were games where he simply missed a lot of shots and could not find anything.

He was good at running the offense, there was no doubt about that. The team did have a good flow to its offense with him in there. He was clearly the best backup point guard option on the roster. And on some nights he was the best point guard on the team.

But that was few and far between. It was not anywhere near consistent enough for the Magic to have any faith in him as a long-term option. Or as someone they can rely on nightly.

While he was able to get into the paint and dish the ball, he also favored his own shot too much at times. And Jennings is someone who loves to shoot. That reputation preceded him. It proved to be correct.

Jennings showed that he can still reach back and be a backup option still. He still has to get healthy and prove he is all the way back. But he still has a long way to go to reach consistency. The Magic gave him the opportunity and it just did not come together for him.
