team. 38. Maybe this season’s ROY race still has some life. Elfrid Payton just became only the seventh rookie in league history to post triple-doubles in consecutive games … and the first since our man <strong><a href=. . Previous: . Orlando Magic. 27

There are starting to be a few rumblings that maybe, just maybe, the Rookie of the Year race should re-open. We have begun wondering that too with each Elfrid Payton performance that seems to astound us.

Andrew Wiggins will win Rookie of the Year still. As I argued previously, his raw stats get him the nod as the national media and voters are not paying attention the Magic or the Timberwolves at this point of the season. Rookie of the Year is not for the late-bloomers, unless you are in the Playoff race.

Payton, like Oladipo before him, probably have good arguments for their respective awards. They are both (likely) not going to win it.
