Jalen Suggs has earned untouchable status
Jalen Suggs has earned his status as a part of the Magic’s young core. The former number-five draft pick is the heartbeat of the Magic’s defense. He is one of the best on-ball defenders in the league, fighting over every screen imaginable and playing his heart out every game, and Orlando would not have been a top defensive team without him. He might even be rewarrewarded with an NBA All-Defensive team selection soon.
Offensively, Suggs still has room to grow, but he was solid during the regular season. Especially his three-point shot was a pleasant surprise. As a sophomore, he shot 32.7 percent from three on 3.8 attempts per game. This season, his attempts went up to 5.1, and he shot almost 40 percent in the regular season.
The Magic need players to stretch the floor, and if Suggs can replicate that kind of shooting in the future, it will be huge for the team. While he is an important part of this team’s foundation, Suggs does not seem ready to be the starting point guard or a third scoring option quite yet.
Adding a true point guard and shifting him to the shooting guard spot could really help Suggs come along as an offensive player.
