2023 Orlando Magic Offseason Needs: Rim Protection and Low Post Enforcers
2023 Orlando Magic Offseason Needs: Rim Protection
Drew Eubanks, Portland Trail Blazers
The options do indeed get thin. And so the Orlando Magic may end up trying to piece together those minutes behind Wendell Carter in the same way they did last year behind Wendell Carter.
They may decide to keep Moe Wagner and then add a player just a hair bit more than the minimum to fill those minutes and trust coach Jamahl Mosley to know which player to go with for each situation or allow for a training camp battle to determine who gets the spot.
The player that is getting their fair share of buzz is Portland Trail Blazers center Drew Eubanks.
Keith Smith of Spotrac pitched him on an episode of Locked On Magic earlier this week and there is at least some indication he could be a good fit for the Magic.
Eubanks averaged only 6.6 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game in 20.3 minutes per game. He added 1.3 blocks per game while giving up 58.4 percent field goal percentage at the rim. Eubanks has been working under a minimum contract and could be had at a more reasonable and middling price.
The Magic could probably get him for less than the taxpayer mid-level. That would give them some continued flexibility to add in other areas. Eubanks started 20 games last year too. So there is that hope he could step up and be a consistent player.
That is what some team will bet on. Whether that will be the Magic remains to be seen.
