5 potential free agent targets with ties to Orlando Magic

2. Seth Curry

It would be great to put Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks on this list instead, but he is not a free agent and has given no indication he wants to leave his current situation yet either. We will settle for former teammate Seth Curry then, a fantastic shooter from deep whom the Orlando Magic would love to add to their rotation.

The link here comes through coach Jamahl Mosley, who was an assistant for the Mavericks during the brief stint Curry had there. It is unclear just how well they got on, but Mosley seems to have an excellent reputation at every stop of his career so far, so hopefully that would extend to Curry having good things to say about him as well.

Curry also did a training camp with the Orlando Magic before joining the Magic-affiliated Erie BayHawks for a spell in the 2015 season.

This year, Curry finished out the season on a Brooklyn Nets team that went from contenders to the middle of the pack with the departures of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Now 32, Curry is likely in no mood to see out his remaining years in an uncertain position such as the one the Nets occupy right now.

The Magic are far from contenders themselves, but their path back to the top looks a lot more clear in this moment. They also have a glaring need for a two-guard who can score in high volume, be it off the bench or perhaps even as a starter. Seth Curry could easily fill either of those roles, and it would also free up some money if the organization traded Gary Harris in the process.

Curry is beginning to slow down, and he picks up nagging injuries at a frustrating rate. His production is also on the decline, but he is still capable of getting hot in a hurry (superb career 43.5 percent 3-point shooter) and would be an excellent remedy to some of the Magic’s offensive woes for the next couple of seasons.

Like many others on this list, Curry is not likely to have a ton of offers either, and this suits the Magic.

In this weak free agency class they are not going to get meetings with some players who ordinarily they may have, and so shopping around for a player like Curry on a team-friendly deal makes a lot of sense for both parties.
