Orlando Magic Offseason Preview: 3 going and 3 staying in the rebuild
3 staying, 3 going for the Orlando Magic
Going: Terrence Ross
The skinny on Terrence Ross: The Orlando Magic likely already shopped him at the trade deadline but did not like any of the offers they got and so they kept him heading into his final year — knowing there are two more bites at the apple before his contract expires.
With that being said, since Ross is in the final year of his deal, the Magic will probably pull the trigger on whatever his value is at the 2023 trade deadline if not before at the draft trade window. Every team in the playoffs could use a sparkplug shooter like Ross.
Last year, they were looking for more draft capital and came away empty-handed. The question is whether the Magic will lower that asking price — they were widely reported to be looking for a first-round pick that never came.
His trade value and overall impact took a hit as he shot only 29.2-percent from the 3-point line last year. It was not Ross’ best season. There were a few sparks from him but it was largely a struggle to get Ross going.
That is the opposite of what teams are looking for at the deadline. But the Magic will most likely try again next year.
Orlando desperately needs scoring from the wing positions and they could draft somebody to fill that role which would make moving on from Ross much easier.
