5 Orlando Magic players who improved the most

3. R.J. Hampton

For R.J. Hampton, it was all about what role he was going to play.

It was obvious that Hampton was not ready to be the playmaker and initiate the Orlando Magic’s offense. However, due to the injuries, that was the role Hampton was forced into to start the season.

But once players started to return to the lineup and Hampton was moved off the ball, we saw the improvements Hampton was striving for during the offseason.

Hampton at his best this season was to play off the ball and cut and make catch-and-shoot threes. Hampton has had four months in which he has shot at least 35.5-percent from beyond the arc. This is a jump from the 31.0-percent he shot the previous year.

Hampton’s numbers do not jump off the page, but this is due to the inconsistent role he has played all season long.

At his best this season, Hampton displayed the ability to play strong individual defense and make open threes when given.

Hampton will continue to grow as a player, but his work during the offseason to improve as a shooter has paid off, and there is no reason to doubt as Hampton goes into the offseason that he won’t be able to grow in other areas.
