Orlando Magic Second Round Targets

JT Thor, Auburn

Auburn forward JT Thor is one of the more interesting prospects in the draft, although still incredibly raw.

For the Tigers last year, he averaged 9.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game on a cool 44.0-percent shooting. He is not a good shooting and his skill base is rather limited.

But Thor measures well at 6-foot-9 with a 7-foot-3 wingspan. And his athleticism and leaping ability are pretty eye-popping. Where a team falls on Thor likely depends on whether they believe he can add skills to the raw athleticism.

He blocked 1.4 shots per game last year and looks like a fluid player who can immediately make an impact defensively and grow his other skill set. This would be a long-term play for sure for whoever drafts him. But Thor has all the makings of a modern power forward if it all comes together.

That is why among the other raw prospects projected to go toward the end of the first round, Thor seems to be generating the most buzz.

At this point, he looks a bit like an unpolished Jonathan Isaac. His size and easy movement make him a tough defensive player and he seems willing to commit on that end. That is half the battle and playing with that energy will get him a long way with whoever drafts him.

The numbers do not bode well for his offense and he will have to become a more consistent shooter and scorer. But he showed plenty of flashes in his lone year at Auburn to suggest he could be a solid on-ball attacker.

Thor has a long way to go to reach that potential. He definitely seems like the kind of player who traded on his athleticism for much of his youth career and got a bit of an awakening when he jumped up to college.

But the tools are all there to be a great player if he puts in the work to refine his skills and add weight to his frame.
