Orlando Magic 2022 Season Goal #2:

Find Identity

Under the former regime, the Orlando Magic were an above-average defensive team with a first-round playoff ceiling. Steve Clifford preached defense and the team actually played quite well for the most part.

But now the team is looking for a new coach and has a completely different roster. Their first step will be to find the right coach. Despite teams like the Boston Celtics and the Portland Trail Blazers already filling their head coach position, there is still an excellent pool of candidates.

Finding a good coach will allow the Magic to solidify an early identity and playstyle that will carry them into the later phases of the rebuild.

This coming season will be the time for the young core to win, lose and grow together. There will be mistakes made along the way but like any rebuilding, the foundation is perhaps the most important part.

Players like Cole Anthony and Chuma Okeke gave Magic fans something to root for last year while they, like the others, showed promise and a glimpse at an enticing future.

Will they become the young scrappy team that sneaks into the playoffs? Or a streaky squad that struggles to close out games?

It remains to be seen how the culture and identity surrounding the team will evolve in the coming months and even years but one thing is for sure, there is a bright future ahead.
