Norman Powell’s role on a talented Toronto Raptors team has steadily grown over his time in Canada to the point where he averaged 28.4 minutes and 16.0 points per game last season.

The shooting guard also made an efficient 49.5-percent of his shots and 39.3-percent of his threes. His transition game is strong which would suit the Magic’s style of play and he is effective when driving to the basket for layups and dunks.

Powell understands his role and his limitations. He defends well, runs the floor in transition and is smart with his shot selection and 3-point shooting. The Raptors have optimized his skills.

The 27-year-old’s contract runs for another two seasons, giving the Magic some security should a move for Powell materialize.

Evan Fournier has been an important player for Orlando during his time on the team but after another disappointing postseason and with one year left on his current deal should he take up his player option, the end of his spell at the Magic could be approaching.

Toronto could be heading toward a rebuild with several players approaching the end of their contracts. But, like the Magic, they probably still want to continue to compete as they retool. The Raptors should still feel like they have a chance to win the Eastern Conference even after a poor showing inside the NBA Campus.

Offering Fournier would allow the Raptors to get a year of an experienced and talented shooting guard on a team which is still one of the stronger in the Eastern Conference before a possible rebuild the year after.

It is not yet clear as to what extent the Raptors will want to break up their current team this offseason and how much they actually want to rebuild but should the front office look to start making changes, Powell could be a very useful player on the Magic.
