Orlando Magic Media Day: Jonathan Isaac grew — in height, in confidence and on the court
Limitless Promise
If something has changed in Jonathan Isaac off the court, it is his seeming comfort with the entire process. That will help him grow.
As he spoke with the media, he cracked jokes and seemed at ease. The court and the NBA season ahead were a comfortable process. His focus was not merely on learning everything, but on getting better individually.
It may mean nothing, but feeling at ease and exuding confidence in that setting felt different about Isaac.
His approach to improving as a team has not changed. Isaac remains a team player.
"“As we get better individually, we can only get better collectively,” Isaac said. “As I continue to make strides in that direction, our team is going to make strides in the right direction. Markelle [Fultz], Mo [Bamba], Wes [Iwundu], AG, all these guys, as we continue to grow individually we will be better. I think that’s what happened this summer.”"
Fostering that growth from Isaac and everyone will be vital to the team accomplishing its goals and truly improving. There is a general sense of excitement for the team.
Isaac is a big part of that.
His approach is certainly one that will foster that growth. He said he is eager to attack what Clifford teaches and do what he has to help the team win.
But Isaac will have to show his own improvements too. For the first time in his NBA career, he seems to be sure of what he can accomplish. He is no longer the rookie.
"“It’s in my mind to be the best,” Isaac said. “It’s in my mind to be great on both ends of the floor. I want to contribute every single night for my team. I want to wreak havoc on the offensive end on a consistent level every single night. That’s what I want to build to.”"
Isaac is not about to leave his role. That is not in his nature. But he is ready to expand his game within that.
Isaac’s game has started to grow. This year it might blossom as he finds himself at ease on a NBA court. And as his game continues to build.
