The Orlando Magic enter Summer League ready to welcome back a key player from injury and with plenty of questions for a roster that still needs filling.

The Orlando Magic are preparing to hit the court once again.

The team has landed in Las Vegas preparing for Summer League and an examination of some of the young players on the roster. It will just be good to see the Magic uniform back on the floor again.

This year’s Summer League features less intrigue than normal.

Orlando made the playoffs and has filled its roster with virtually the same team. The Magic are hoping overall that familiarity and stability can help them return to the postseason.

Not to mention internal improvement from several young players including Mohamed Bamba. He is certainly the central figure for the team this Summer League as the biggest player to play.

Orlando does not have a rookie on this year’s team with Chuma Okeke still sidelined with a torn ACL. And Melvin Frazier is recovering from surgery and will miss Summer League too. That lowers the intrigue a bit for Summer League.

So too does the team’s lack of roster spots. Orlando has just one roster spot remaining (and Khem Birch‘s restricted free agency hanging over it at the moment) and the two two-way contracts to fill. Orlando still has some work to do and things to learn at Summer League.

Every time someone takes the floor with a Magic uniform on, it gives the team some data points. It provides the team with some information. The Magic obviously picked these players for a reason so there is something they want to see from them.

What that is will develop during the course of the week in Las Vegas. The Magic will be watching a few things.

Typically Summer League does not change a whole lot for the team. Mohamed Bamba is likely to play only a few games and the Magic just want to see him on the floor playing and healthy more than anything.

But then they have to fill out the Lakeland Magic roster, find some two-way contract prospects and fill out the last bits of their roster. There is plenty to watch for at Summer League.

Even if the questions feel small, the Magic are not in a position to waste an opportunity to mine talent and bolster the roster.
