Justin Holiday, Memphis Grizzlies

The Orlando Magic have already had some free agent connections to some guys that kind of raised eyebrows. The kind of players who have played for big-market teams that have underperformed and so they might be in the spotlight a bit more.

With Justin Holiday, there might be something to it. Something at least worth exploring for someone who might be a bit of a bargain.

Holiday averaged 9.5 points per game and shot 33.3 percent from beyond the arc in 44 games. It has been an up-and-down run for Holiday through his career — 8.1 points per game across six seasons.

But the Magic appear to have some interest. According to Ian Begley of SNY, the Orlando Magic, Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks will chase after Holiday. He probably is not any of those team’s top priorities. Holiday is still mostly a role player off the bench.

There are enough teams left though that believe he can be a good 3-and-D type player. The defense part has not quite come together yet. His 3-point shooting is solid, but not consistent.

The defense is there in fits and starts. The big part remains to get him consistent playing time and in a better environment. Maybe that would be a team like the Magic.

Orlando is looking for depth and that would certainly be a big part of the attraction to a player like Holiday.

The 6-foot-6 guard will be 30 next season and so he is hitting the end of his development curve. The Magic would expect him to contribute immediately and play a role off the bench backing up the Magic’s wings.

That is not the best option, but Orlando has a roster to fill out and Holiday can have some solid games.

dark. Next. Orlando Magic should pursue D'Angelo Russell

That is really what these under-the-radar free agents are for. Orlando has a roster to fill and will need to find some bargain players to help fill that out. Especially if they have to spend a chunk of their available funds to retain their players or find suitable replacements.
