NCAA Tournament Preview: Who the Orlando Magic should be watching
By John Black
Jarrett Culver, SG, Texas Tech
vs. Northern Kentucky, Friday 1:30 p.m. (TNT)
No. 5 in The Step Back’s Mock Draft
Jarrett Culver has flourished in his second year with the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He has been the undeniable leader of the team and has them in position to contend for the national title.
As a freshman last year, Culver only averaged 11 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 1.8 assists per game. He has improved upon all three of those numbers in his sophomore season.
This year, Culver leads the Red Raiders in scoring with 18.5 points per game. He has increased his rebounds to 6.3 per game, but more impressively added nearly two more assists per game at 3.6 per game.
Culver is a big guard at 6-foot-5 and offers a lot of defensive versatility being able to guard the 1, 2 and 3 positions.
With the uncertainty of Terrence Ross’ return, the Orlando Magic would be wise to consider taking Jarrett Culver if available. He would serve as a nice back up to Evan Fournier, as well as a potential key addition to the Orlando young core.
But Culver has gotten plenty of buzz throughout the season. He could be one of the top wings selected in the Draft.
