2018 Orlando Magic NBA Draft: Orlando Magic Daily’s final mock draft
The Rest of the First Round
Lonnie Walker IV had an uneven freshman year for the Miami Hurricanes where he struggled to score and mesh with the veteran team and score. His shooting leaves a lot to be desired. But his athleticism and potential are enough to get him near-Lottery consideration.
Aaron Holiday comes from good lineage and has good size to play the point guard position. He is a talented player. But turnovers plagued him throughout his career with the UCLA Bruins.
Miles Bridges is the ultimate tweener and of the same kind of player that has gone through the Michigan State Spartans program. He probably projects more of a 4 than a 3 because of his relatively meager shooting. But Bridges is a huge athlete.
Chandler Hutchison projects as a solid role player who can create a bit off the dribble and shoot spot-up 3-pointers. He just feels like a really good San Antonio Spurs player.
Mitchell Robinson was one of the best high school prospects before he bounced around commitments and then was deemed ineligible to play with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Robinson though is incredibly talented and athletic as a rim protector.
Keita Bates-Diop had a breakout scoring year his junior year with the Ohio State Buckeyes. But he had long been a solid defender and grinder on the glass. He may not have a great offensive game, but he will fill a role and contribute to a team that needs some grit.
Kevin Huerter might be the best shooter in the draft overall. He had a strong Combine despite playing injured and could be a great addition for a Playoff team looking for a boost from the outside.
Jerome Robinson quietly put together a great scoring season for the Boston College Eagles. He is great attacking the basket and getting to the rim. He has to improve as a shooter and there are questions about what he can do when he is not the main focus offensively.
Josh Okogie is a great defender and driver already. He should find a place in the NBA and with a good team. His 3-point shot must improve. But he should have value on his defense alone.
Khyri Thomas should step into the league and make an immediate impact. He is a good defender with good length and is a good shooter already. He does not have much room to continue improving. But he should make an impact for a playoff team off the bench.
Donte DiVincenzo had his breakout game for the Villanova Wildcats during the National Championship Game of the NCAA Tournament. He had plenty of impact before that. And he has done it all off the bench. A great athlete and a good shooter, DiVincenzo will fit in somewhere.
Dzanan Musa is an intriguing prospect coming from FC Barcelona. He has great size and length and uses that size well to score. He has great 3-point range. Questions about how he translates up to the NBA are what holds him back.
Jacob Evans was a solid defender and in-between scorer for the Cincinnati Bearcats. He has to improve as a shooter and might be undersized to play the 2.
Troy Brown made his mark with his physicality and defense for the Oregon Ducks. He was just solid in a lot of areas. But his shooting is the biggest question for him.
Melvin Frazier is a good defender. That is where his game stars. And he has an improving 3-point shot. But it is hardly reliable enough. His improvement this year though suggests he could be a bit more.
Next: The case for Michael Porter Jr.
Gary Trent Jr. got a bit lost in the shuffle with the Duke Blue Devils this year. He was just solid all around and is a talented player overall. He just needs a chance to shine.
