The Veterans

In addition to Aaron Gordon and Mario Hezonja, the Orlando Magic have three other potential free agents — Arron Afflalo, Marreese Speights and Shelvin Mack.

Arron Afflalo and Marreese Speights were brought in to provide depth and veteran presence at the start of this season. Both came in with optimism and enthusiasm, with Afflalo delighted to return to the team where he played his best basketball, and Speights being a Central Florida native.

Yet neither player was able to get their seasons off the ground. Despite featuring heavily in the early season rotation, Speights’ shot selection came into question as his 3-point prowess all but disappeared. Things were worse for Arron Afflalo, whose most notable moment was a controversial fight with Minnesota Timberwolves forward Nemanja Bjelica.

Orlando is likely to move on from both Afflalo and Speights this offseason.

Shelvin Mack is a different story.

The backup point guard has at times performed decently, averaging 6.9 points and 4.0 assists in 19.8 minutes per game. Mack is guaranteed $1 million next season. He will make $6 million should Orlando retain him for the 2019 season.

Unless part of a trade, Orlando should keep Mack on the roster, with next year likely to be yet another year of rebuilding.
