Aaron Gordon is a future star, the most acrobatic dunker in the NBA
Aaron Gordon has taken the reigns from Blake Griffin as the best dunking big man in the NBA. Against the Philadelphia 76ers last Thursday, he caught a lob in between two defenders and finished with a reverse dunk. That play is deserving of many oohs and ahs.
Gordon is showing the basketball world why Rob Hennigan drafted him fourth overall in the 2014 NBA Draft.
The 6-foot-9 combo forward is averaging a team-high 18.0 points per game and 8.3 rebounds, which is second on the team. Gordon has displayed improved ball-handling and the ability to go from coast-to-coast. He can initiate the offense and jump-start the fastbreak. All valuable skills.
On numerous occasion, Gordon has snagged a rebound and gone the length of the court for a bucket. His athleticism is starting to shine through as his skills become more refined. He is no longer just a bundle of potential. A fully-formed player is emerging.
Sometimes Gordon has a tendency to force things and turn the ball over. But for the most part he has been in control. When he is on his game, he is a force to be reckoned with because of his speed, athleticism and strength attacking the basket.
He is also an improved shooter at 34.3 percent from the 3-point line. Gordon can be that go-to guy for the Magic going forward. He has a lot of the Victor Oladipo development curve in his game. Both players entered the league with raw skills but were given the keys to create and develop their offensive game.
The Magic cannot give up on Gordon and must re-sign him in the offseason. Losing out on Oladipo’s stardom is proof that the Magic have to spend the big bucks in order to keep young talent in-house.
Gordon has a superstar ceiling going forward.
