The Orlando Magic’s fourth jersey is officially out. Nike unveiled the league’s City Edition jerseys, confirming the space theme for the Magic.

The Orlando Magic will indeed be heading to space with their City Edition jerseys. Nike unveiled the entire set of City Edition jerseys Wednesday, unveiling the final uniform Orlando will wear this year.

The long-rumored space jersey is more understated than the early mock-ups — less constellation and a more regular night sky. But the design is essentially the same as reported. The Magic’s secondary logo is the main logo on the jersey and fits in nicely with the overall space theme.

Take a look:

As I said, the mock-ups were much worse with the purple hues of a deep night sky. This is much more understated and keeps the blue as the primary color. It still looks too much like a print, perhaps. But it is a unique-looking jersey.

Nike offered explanations for why each jersey was unique and represented aspects of the cities the teams are located in. And the space theme is not only a call to Central Florida’s relationship with the aerospace industry but also the name of the team itself.

From the Orlando Magic’s press release:

"The Magic’s City Edition uniform celebrates the magic that exists in our solar system and beyond. The uniform keeps the iconic symbol for the Magic over the years front and center, the stars, and features a shimmery cosmic look and feel. Representative of reaching beyond the limits, the City Uniform breaks from the team’s pinstripe tradition for a unique take on the Magic name."

From Nike’s press release:

"Some things are bigger than our imagination and greater than life. The Magic City Edition uniform is covered in stars and features a shimmery comet ball for a cosmic look and feel."

Images may not do the jersey complete justice. Perhaps fans have to wait and see them in action before making any final conclusions about the uniforms.

For those who dislike the jersey, the City Edition jersey (or whatever they call the fourth jersey) will change each year. So the Magic will wear these uniforms only this season.

The Magic have not yet announced when the jerseys will debut on the court.

UPDATE: Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports the Orlando Magic will debut the jerseys against the Los Angeles Lakers on Jan. 31:

It not yet clear how often they will wear it. But the whole jersey set for the Magic is now released this season.
