How will having new management affect the deal?
Philip: I wonder what the effect of new management is in these negotiations. I am sure Aaron Gordon and his agent have a proposed deal in mind, but how is Jeff Weltman supposed to have a number? They have never been around him, there is no relationship there.
Sam: Do you think that helps or hinders Gordon?
Philip: That probably works better for Gordon. He has one year to prove his worth to the team, and this could end up with him getting more. But the lack of a relationship seems to be a big factor. It seems like everyone is just assuming this newness in the front office is keeping extension talks from moving forward.
Ricky: I definitely think there is something to the idea that Weltman would rather sit back and evaluate this season rather than lock the Magic into an extension with Gordon. A lot would then rest on how the negotiations go next offseason.
