What is McGrady’s ultimate legacy in the NBA? With the Magic?
Palmer: Tracy McGrady will go down as one of the best perimeter scorers in league history. While people will incorrectly remember him for never making it past the first round. (He made it to the finals with the San Antonio Spurs in his final season). With the Magic, McGrady will be remembered as he will in his entirety. A freaky athlete, with plus handling that could score anywhere anytime. I truly believe McGrady was at one time the best perimeter player in the NBA.
Buckley: McGrady lucked out in the time in which he shined. The Michael Jordan vacuum made everyone fall in love with isolating, scoring 2-guards with flaws we were willing to look past (your Allen Iversons, your Vince Carters, your young Kobe Bryants).I think everyone (rightly) thinks of McGrady in a Magic uniform first, and his legacy as one of the best perimeter scorers ever is more than secure.
Rossman-Reich: I have been reading a lot about this and may reserve some of those comments for the weekend. But McGrady’s ultimate legacy to me was he made scoring look so easy. I loved his laid-back style and demeanor on the floor and just how effortless he made things look. There have been so few players his size who looked like everything was so easy. And that ease resonated and seemed to make everything possible. His ultimate legacy was his scoring and just how important team building is for success for the very best players. But his influence is seen throughout the league in how big guys are used. They can be lithe and athletic and still powerful. A very deserved entry to the Hall of Fame.
