Kyle Korver has one skill: shooting. But he is one of the best to do it. Korver is not going to put the ball on the floor, and he is a liability on defense. But he will hit the open 3-pointer consistently. He still has one of the largest gravity scores in the league. Defenses pay attention to him every moment he is on the floor.
Korver seemed to struggle in the playoffs for the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he still shot a respectable 39.1 percent from 3-point range. Any time Korver shoots, it is expected to go in.
Korver just completed a four-year, $24-million contract. His limitations as a player mean his market should remain around that range. And that could put him int eh Magic’s wheelhouse if he is looking to leave Cleveland and passes on contenders.
Even though he is limited, he can still play a valuable role for the Magic. He can give them some scoring off the bench, but he can also be a mentor to the younger players.
The Magic lack shooting and not only can Korver provide that, but he can possibly help other Magic players become better shooters. In his time in Cleveland, there were reports Korver was giving advice to Cavalier players.
Korver helped Tristan Thompson with his free throw shooting. Korver also gave advice to LeBron James regarding his free throw shooting. If one of the greatest players of all time can benefit from Korver’s knowledge, he can surely help the Magic players.
The Cavaliers invested a future first-round pick for Korver, so the assumption is they would want to keep him. But with the Cavaliers current payroll, the luxury tax considerations to signing him could be a deterrent.
