Like Rudy Gay, Otto Porter Jr. has been a target for Magic fans for some time now. He is coming off of his best season and he is going to have plenty of suitors as he enters restricted free agency.
Again, drafting Jonathan Isaac may force the Magic to shy away from a top-tier free agent, but Porter would provide a major talent boost to this team, someone who fits the Magic’s vision for versatility. Plus a strong 3-point shot.
At only 24, Porter should take a few more strides and with a bigger role in Orlando. He could reach All-Star caliber numbers with a more central role in an offense as he continues to come into his own. Last season, Porter found his 3-point stroke as he shot at a career-high mark of 43 percent.
With the Magic, Porter would play the prototypical “3-and-D” role and try to slow down the opponent’s best wing threat. He would be a nice fit next to Aaron Gordon as the two can become a strong athletic pair.
Still, it would be a major shock for Orlando to land Porter, teams that are in a position to compete will be after him in free agency. And it seems like Porter could garner a max offer sheet — which the Washington Wizards would match.
