After spending the last few seasons as a role player for the Golden State Warriors, Andre Iguodala may find himself in a new home. The rest of the NBA is going to try to take the Warriors apart piece by piece for a chance to steal their throne.
It appears the Magic have some interest in the forward according to ESPN.com’s Chris Haynes. They are believed to be among the teams who will make a push for the veteran forward.
With about $10 million in cap space, the Magic will have to make some sort of move to clear up space to land Iguodala. Still, it would be a long shot for Orlando to sign him when looking at the other suitors. The San Antonio Spurs, LA Clippers and a few other teams are in far better situations than the Magic.
If some miracle were to happen, Iguodala could be a massive boost for the Magic. He is a tremendous defensive player and still flashes some athleticism even with his old age.
While Iguodala’s scoring has decreased as he faded into a bench role for the Warriors, he is still an effective and efficient scorer. He works mostly in the mid-range, but can hit an open 3-pointer when it is called for.
At 33, it is unclear if Iguodala can take on a larger role though. A team like the Magic would likely ask him to be a more primary scorer. It is unclear if Iguodala can be that player anymore.
