Orlando Magic Daily NBA Draft Live Tracker
Malik Monk is the best shooter in the draft, hands down. If the Magic had taken him, it would have been a fine pick (although I think there would be better picks on the board). Monk will have plenty of room to shoot with Dwight Howard in the paint and Kemba Walker next to him at point guard. This is a perfect situation for him to come in and succeed.
My advice to Magic fans: Don’t let rookie years affect your judgment of this pick.
Luke Kennard is another really solid shooter and I like his fit with the Detroit Pistons. As I said in my mock draft, I think Stan Van Gundy will be able to get the most out of him. He is very similar to J.J. Redick in his development. Should be a good addition, especially if Detroit loses Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
As expected, the Denver Nuggets are going to trade this pick. The Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons were among my targets for picks the Magic could trade up to get with their later picks in this draft. It looks like Detroit will keep their pick. Denver is sending this pick to the Utah Jazz for Trey Lyles and the No. 24 pick.
I liked Donovan Mitchell too as a player the Magic could trade up to get to add for backcourt depth. He is a very good defender. Maybe he does not make as much sense with the defense the team just added in Jonathan Isaac. Orlando needs shooters.
So far, the Magic have been quiet on the trade front. But it would not surprise me to see them get active here soon to try and move up for a player like OG Anunoby (another non-shooter).
Bam Adebayo was my pick for the Orlando Magic at the No. 25 pick in my mock draft. But I am not too surprised he went before then, although I am surprised he went this high. Adebayo is a strong defensive presence at center and someone who fits the modern NBA, although he is a bit undersized. Playing behind Hassan Whiteside is a good spot for him.
Justin Jackson is the kind of player who should be able to contribute to a winning team. He has good skills and is growing as a shooter. He knows how to play a role like he did for the national champion North Carolina Tar Heels. Interesting to see how this fits.
