Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Forward. Jonathan Isaac. 38. Florida State. 6. player

In both a surprise and not a surprise, the Orlando Magic drafted Jonathan Isaac with the sixth overall pick in the NBA Draft. He is a versatile defender at the 3 or 4 who is growing offensively. He has a lot of guard skills that should help him attack from the perimeter. But he sometimes struggled to assert himself. Isaac is not someone who seemingly naturally takes over games. That may be something that comes with growing physical and offensive maturity.

It is a controversial pick for sure. Magic fans had their heart set on Dennis Smith and the need at point guard. There is still time to address that. Isaac is a home-run swing for a pick. Now it is up to the Magic’s development to turn him into the star player they need.

Lauri Markkanen. player. Arizona. Pick Analysis. Center. 7. 86. Scouting Report

This pick is headed to Chicago as part of the Jimmy Butler trade. I am not sure what Chicago is trying to do. But they need 3-point shooting and some size since they a ton of point guards and Zach LaVine playing shooting guard now. So this pick makes sense. Markkanen is more athletic than a typical stretch-5, but he is not going to provide much help defensively on or on the glass.

Pick Analysis. Guard. Frank Ntilikina. 8. Scouting Report. France. player. 27

I really like Frank Ntilikina. He should be a good defender and he can continue to grow into the role as a playmaker. I am not sure the triangle and the mess with the New York Knicks is the best situation for him. But it is a start. He will have to improve his jumper. But the physical tools are all there.

Scouting Report. player. 79. Pick Analysis. Guard. NC State. Dennis Smith Jr.. 9

Here is the guy the Orlando Magic fans wanted to take — or at least a healthy portion of them. I see you guys in my mentions!

Dennis Smith can attack the basket really well and is a pure scorer. He is someone that could come in and make an impact immediately. Quietly I like him for Rookie of the Year, at least as a darkhorse candidate. And the Dallas Mavericks could be a good place for him to grow with a lot of veterans around him and Rick Carlisle as a coach. I like this spot for him. Magic fans might be frustrated because he could be good very quickly.

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Power Forward. Gonzaga. Zach Collins. player. 10. 84

This pick will be traded to the Portland Trail Blazers for the 15th and 20th picks. That is expected. The Trail Blazers had three first round picks and they needed to consolidate them some. That takes a team looking to trade off the board. The Magic certainly could be next in line looking to package their 25th pick and second round picks to move up. Probably in this range after Pick No. 10.

As for this pick. I think Zach Collins is a solid player. He has a lot of tools. But I do not see anything special with him. I am not sure what his impact will be in the NBA.
