Ivan Rabb — C (California)

Ivan Rabb has been linked to the Orlando Magic for over a year now. Prior to the 2016 draft, many felt Rabb could be a fit with the Magic.

Instead, Rabb decided to go back to school and led the Magic to draft Domantas Sabonis, whom they traded in a package for Serge Ibaka.

Now, Rabb’s draft stock has taken a hit and he could be an option for the Magic with the 25th pick this year after projecting as a Lottery pick last year. Although the decision to stay in school may have made him a late first round selection, there are reasons for optimism.

Although his skinny 220-pound frame is not ideal for a big, he has solid footwork and seems to have the skills to score while his body fills out. Rabb’s biggest assets on offense are his length and athleticism.

On the defensive side, the same concepts apply for Rabb. He lacks in the strength department but he has the length to contest shots and protect the rim. Like many of the center and forward prospects in the “one-and-done” era, they need to grow into their bodies.

For the Magic, Rabb could find early minutes in the front court. It is unclear if he would be a good fit next to centers Nikola Vucevic or Bismack Biyombo, but frontcourt depth is an area the Magic could look into.
