"The Magic enter the season’s final two games (Chicago and Detroit) having lost six of their last seven — a span in which they’ve allowed an NBA-worst 119.9 points per game."

The Orlando Magic’s defense has been the biggest disappointment and the biggest hindrance all season. Orlando ahs just collapsed on the defensive end. And AJ Neuharth-Kuesch wrote this before the 122-75 defeat to the Chicago Bulls on Monday. Things just seem to go from bad to worse on that end.

The Magic’s plans of becoming a defensive juggernaut certainly did not come to fruition. The team is 24th in the league in defensive rating, giving up 108.2 points per 100 possessions. Whether it was before the All-Star Break with Serge Ibaka at power forward or the team going small after the trade, the team has struggled defensively. Orlando never took to a defensive identity after a strong start to the season.

Coach Frank Vogel has taken some responsibility. He said he needed to do a better job coaching his team up defensively. The reality may be that the team just does not have good individual defenders.

It is hard to overcome being such a poor defense when so much was invested on that end of the floor.
