Orlando Magic Power Rankings Roundup: Elements of culture
AJ Neuharth-Kuesch, USA TODAY
"Of the few bright spots of Orlando’s otherwise dull season, the growth of Elfrid Payton is something Magic fans can hang their hats on. Since coach Frank Vogel opted to take a small-ball approach after the All-Star break, Payton has thrived, averaging 13 points (on 50.5% shooting), 8.3 assists, 7.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals and has recorded five triple-doubles."
Elfrid Payton has been one of the few bright spots for the Orlando Magic to end the season. His triple doubles have provided a layer of excitement for the team. It is going to create an interesting dilemma.
Clearly, the Magic play better with Payton on the floor. He has clearly established himself as a great fit in this open style of play. D.J. Augustin has struggled to lead the offense and is part of many of the Magic’s worst lineups. Payton is part of many of the team’s best.
That could say a whole lot of things. Payton still struggles defensively still. And this play makes everyone wonder where it was earlier in the year. Maybe it was a matter of clearing the lane for him to drive and attack more. Or maybe something has clicked finally.
