"This summer’s best suspense/horror film might be what the Magic do in free agency."

27. . (30-48). Previous: . New York Knicks. 25. team

Matt Moore published his power rankings Monday before the whiteboard photo leaked. So even that intrigue seems like it is gone for the Magic. At least their free agency brainstorming went out to the public unintentionally.

We have addressed the whiteboard incident from several angles on the site already. Essentially it was an embarrassing incident, but what was on that whiteboard is relatively inconsequential. It appeared it was the Magic listing their options rather than determining an action plan. It should not be read as anything more than that, not without context.

It may be irrelevant anyway. The Magic seem likely to move in a different direction and fire general manager Rob Hennigan anyway. It will be someone new in charge to make these decisions about free agency and the direction of the franchise.

To say the least, though, the Magic have some big decisions to make and climbing out of this hole is not going to be easy. Some Lottery luck would help tremendously. The Magic absolutely have to hit on that pick. Period.

After that, Orlando needs to look to build the team up and make it complement whatever core the team wants to build around.
