Hollis Thompson
Hollis Thompson projects as a much more natural wing player measuring in at about 6-foot-8, 206 pounds, Thompson can easily play either the shooting guard or small forward spot with the Magic. Thompson has appeared in 265 games in the NBA but was cut by the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this season.
To put it simply, Thompson is much more of a role player than Vander Blue is. Thompson is averaging 15 points, and five rebounds per game on 48 percent shooting from the field and 45 percent from three. You do not find nearly as impressive numbers here with Thompson and that stems from his inability to create offense.
Thompson is your prototype 3-and-D wing. Thompson is a knockdown shooter. In his 265 NBA
Thompson is a knockdown shooter. In his 265 NBA games he shot nearly 39 percent from deep on talent-starved 76ers teams. But that is about all you will get from Thompson on that end. Yes, he cuts and makes layups in transitions but do not ask him to do much more for you on that end.
Defensively, Thompson is a bit more impressive than Blue. Thompson has the frame and lateral quickness to defend most bench 2s and 3s in the NBA. He is not a lockdown defender by any means but is not going to hurt you like D.J. Augustin has hurt the Magic this year.
Thompson’s role with the Magic would be fairly straightforward, play small forward off the bench next to Jodie Meeks and Mario Hezonja and help space the floor and provide some defensive versatility.
Once again, Thompson would inherit Watson’s minutes off the bench.
