Matt Moore, CBS Sports
"Would you describe the Magic’s season as more of a disaster, or a nightmare? Or is it like if you had a nightmare about a disaster? Or a disaster made of nightmares? There are a lot of interesting questions about just how bad this season was for them."
Matt Moore poses a good question. Is this season a disappointment, a disaster, both, a happy accident or. . . what? How do we assess this season in the long scheme of things.
The Magic entered the year with at least modest hopes for its future and its Playoff prospects. They at least had a good bet to make. The roster, of course, fell apart and did not come anywhere close. The season was bad. Very bad.
In some respects, it is a “happy accident.” If a team is going to fail, fail spectacularly and completely. It worked for the Milwaukee Bucks when the Bucks made the Playoffs the previous year and lost enough to get the second overall pick to take Jabari Parker. It worked out well for them. Then again, they had Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The season this year is a disaster most of all in that it does not feel like the Magic have much of a future to build on. The Magic need a draft pick to hit just to have a reason to give fans hope for the future.
Orlando has failed seemingly so completely this year. It is hard to figure out where to go next.
