Other Notables

There were a few more dunkers in the Magic’s history that threw down some pretty good slams. Anfernee Hardaway, Darrell Armstrong, DeQuan Jones, Nick Anderson and Otis Smith were all high flyers in a Magic uniform.

They all had the ability to throw some nasty dunks and some even had the opportunity to showcase them in the NBA Dunk Contest

Otis Smith

The first ever Orlando Magic player to represent Orlando in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 1991. Otis Smith lost to Dee Brown from the Boston Celtics. Smith finished in seventh place in 1991, scoring 41 and another 41 on his two dunk attempts.

Smith was more than just the Magic’s general manager during the NBA Finals run in 2009.

Nick Anderson

Nick Anderson was the host Dunk Contest participant when he followed Smith the the next year at the 1992 All-Star Game at the Orlando Arena.

Anderson put a respectable performance in front of his home crowd in Orlando. He threw down a 360 dunk that gave him a score of 46. Anderson also attempted a blind dunk by covering his eyes with his left hand and dunking with the right, giving him a score of 49.

Anderson would finish in third place.

Darrell Armstrong

Darrell Armstrong’s Slam Dunk Contest performance was disappointing. He has the unfortunate honor of making a layup in the dunk contest.

But Armstrong had some incredible athleticism for a player his size. He threw down some incredible dunks in games and earned his spot in the 1996 Slam Dunk Contest, even if he coudl not perform in San Antonio.

Anfernee Hardaway

Anfernee Hardaway, was an amazing player. He was unselfish and made the game look effortless out there on the court. That included his dunks where he exploded with ease.

While Penny Hardaway never did participate in the NBA Dunk contest, he was still able to show off his dunking abilities in games with the Magic.

It was unfortunate that knee injuries cut his career short. It certainly sapped him of his athleticism and what made him special.
