Aaron Gordon

Casual NBA fans who were not aware of Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon became familiar with him when he competed in the 2016 NBA Slam Dunk contest.

Aaron Gordon is now, perhaps the best dunker in the league.

But his injuries did affect his ability to complete his dunks in the 2017 Dunk Contest. He failed to live up to expectations and even Gordon admitted his disappointment in his performance.

Gordon attempted to dunk a ball dropped by a flying drone. Gordon missed all three attempts. Gordon completed the dunk on the fourth try with a score of 38 which put him in last place and essentially ended his night.

Gordon’s final thought from that night (h/t Sports Illustrated):

"“I had a pretty crazy lineup. It would have been nice to execute. The drone worked perfectly. I just missed an opportunity.”"

Gordon later expressed extreme disappointment in his performance. He really considered dunking an art form and clearly put a lot of work into his plans for the contest. He wanted to top his stellar performance from 2016.

Gordon’s transition dunk rate has made a big jump from the 2015 and 2016 seasons, when 24 percent and 29 percent of his dunks, respectively, stemmed from fast-break situations.

It is hard to pick which dunk to show and write about because all of this kids dunk is nasty.

One of his most spectacular dunks came in a game at the Amway Center against the Brooklyn Nets. Elfrid Payton stole the ball, and threw the pass to Gordon at the 3-point line where Gordon nearly jumped from the free throw line and slammed it in one handed.

Definitely something to check out.
