Shaquille O’Neal

Shaquille O’Neal’s hundreds of slams remind us of just how dominant and just what a unique physical specimen O’Neal was with his years with the Magic.

O’Neal spared nobody once he got the ball in the post. He was not too skinny in his years with Orlando, but he was definitely not the hulking beast he was later in his career.

Kevin Durant‘s comments that O’Neal lacked skill clearly did not apply to O’Neal’s time in Orlando.

In his time with Orlando, O’Neal had a reputation for breaking basketball rims.

In 1992, in a game against the Phoenix Suns, O’Neal had a put-back dunk that brought the entire basket down. Luckily there was a second basketball that was able to be put on as a replacement.

He did it again later that season against the New Jersey Nets, overshadowing Nick Anderson’s 50-point game. The Nets did not have a readily available backup basket and the NBA would soon require them in every arena.
