Orlando Magic Daily Roundtable: Let’s Make A Deal
The Orlando Magic have made their move and they may not be done. As the roster gets reshaped, the OMD staff got together to talk about the team’s state.
The Orlando Magic got to work to improve their roster and make their team better Tuesday when they traded Serge Ibaka for Terrence Ross and a first round pick.
Perhaps that will not make the team better immediately. But the Magic were backed into the corner and needed to make a move for Serge Ibaka to begin setting up their future.
What the rest of that will look like and how the Magic begin to move forward will be determined in the next three or four days. The Magic are not sitting by and waiting. They are remaining active.
Rumors are already flying about the team searching for a new point guard. And facing a season that may not even hit 30 wins after four years of small progress, the Magic clearly feel they need to rethink some things and get back on track.
Thursday’s trade deadline is a turning point for this team. Both an indictment of the season so far and a chance to begin setting things right for the rest of the season. There will be a lot of work to get the team back on the right track. And it will take some changes.
Orlando Magic
It is time to make a deal. Or at least figure out the framework to make such deals this summer.
The Magic are in a precarious position for sure. They are trying to rebuild their rebuild after pushing their chips in. Trading your way out of it is extremely difficult to do. Everything has a price. And Orlando has misused its assets in the past.
The high draft pick the Magic are sure to get will help get things started. But the desire to win now remains with the Magic. Orlando is not about to pack it in and leave their fans hungering for the Playoffs again. The way they go about it might change still.
Whether that is the correct strategy to fix things with the Magic is another question entirely.
Orlando seems ready to make a deal and continue dealing to put the team in better position to produce some results.
With the trade deadline looming, we gathered the Orlando Magic Daily staff together to discuss what the Magic have done, what the Magic will do and where the Magic will go.
