Elfrid Payton has had one of the more frustrating and confusing season for the Orlando Magic.

At times he has looked stellar, driving into the lane and scoring over and around bigger opponents in the paint. His vision is fantastic. When he is aggressive, the Magic are a better team.

But his shooting remains suspect and he is not always in aggression mode. Elfrid Payton when he is dribbling without purpose or aggression takes a lot away from this team. The Magic go as Payton goes very often.

Payton is averaging a career-high 12.5 points per game and is shooting a career-best 45.7 percent from the floor. That is with him taking more field goal attempts than ever before too.

Obviously Payton has not had the consistency he needs. He has lost his starting job twice now. And despite the reports Hennigan opted to keep Payton over Scott Skiles, it does seem like the Magic are in the market to improve the point guard spot.

My thinking with Payton is the same as my thinking with Nikola Vucevic. Payton can be a fine point guard. He is a decent option at starter. There is no reason not to give up on him completely. But if a better option comes along, the Magic should absolutely go for it.

This draft has a lot of point guards. If the Magic have a new general manager, they are almost certain to look to restart some and could look to replace Payton.
