What is the finishing lineup for the Orlando Magic this season?
By Joe Buckley
Shooting Guard: Evan Fournier
As mentioned, the finishing lineup needs scoring. And not just scoring, but the threat of the score.
Evan Fournier has this in abundance. Every player on the court knows Fournier is shot hungry and more than capable of putting it up from almost any distance.
Luckily, Fournier comes in the form of a J.J. Redick or Kyle Korver type. Shooters who will run their opponent off multiple hard-knock screens just for a glimpse of daylight. This is a skill, make no mistake, and one that comes in incredibly handy in the clutch.
Defenders are that tiny bit more concerned about making a mistake. Teams do not want to be taken out of their shape. And big men can get caught in the middle handling cutters like this. Should they be pushing out to defend Fournier or covering their own man on the roll? It is the type of confusion that, even if it does not get Fournier a look, will almost certainly get one for the team. The decoy is just as important as the weapon.
And Fournier can be just as effective as the weapon.
He will likely retain the title of best shooter on the Magic this season. He is capable of hitting the three and going midrange. Fournier has the athletic ability to get to the hoop and importantly is a fantastic free-throw shooter, clocking in at 83.6 percent last year.
Fournier can be a capable defender, though he has his weaknesses (such as a penchant for fouling and falling for pump fakes). But if he gets left out of a close game this year, the fans will most definitely be scratching their heads wondering why.
