They do not call him 3-D for nothing!

While there have been many incredible long-distance shooters for the Orlando Magic over the years, none have been able to surpass one from the early days of the ball club — Dennis Scott.

Scott played for the Magic between 1990 and 1997, including being part of the 1995 team that made it to the NBA Finals. Scott was instrumental in that run, hitting the three-ball at a career-high 42.6  percent clip on 5.7 attempts per contest — a huge number for the period.

One year later, he continued his expert marksmanship, shooting 42.5 percent form deep despite taking an even more notable 7.7 attempts per game.

But what makes Scott stand above the crowd was his consistency.

While some had excellent seasons coupled with poor seasons — for example, Jameer Nelson, and others were consistent, but lacked any particular standout season —  Scott was both consistent, and had standout seasons.

He thus shot an incredible 40.3 percent on 5.5 attempts per game for his Magic career, and only once shot worse than 37.4 percent (an anomalous season in 1992 where he played just 18 games due to injury).

To put the icing on the cake, Scott previously held two 3-point shooting NBA records.

He first achieved the record for the most number of 3-point makes in a single game, hitting 11 against the Atlanta Hawks. This record would stand for seven years, before Kobe Bryant broke it in 2003.

The second record was for the number of threes made in a single NBA season, with Scott making 267 shots from beyond the arc for the 1996 regular season. This record survived even longer, Ray Allen broke it a decade later.

Years and players have come and gone, and so have eras too. Yet through out all, there has yet to be anyone, who can match 3-D from beyond the arc.
