It is hard to get a handle on what kind of player fits best with Bismack Biyombo at the power forward position. At this point, Biyombo’s game is very limited offensively. He is not going to score much unless he is dunking it.

That would suggest his best pair is a stretch-4. The Magic are really fresh out of those at this point — Jeff Green and Aaron Gordon are not good enough shooters to get that categorization.

Last season in Toronto, Biyombo’s top frontcourt pairings by net rating were with Patrick Patterson (he shot 36.2 percent from beyond the arc last year) at +6.5 points per 100 possessions and James Johnson (+0.1 points per 100 possessions).

Safe to say, pairing Biyombo with a stretch-4 is the way to maximize offensive potential with him in the game. The Magic not having that, they have loaded up their bench with shooters — C.J. Wilcox, D.J. Augustin, Mario Hezonja and Jodie Meeks all are excellent shooters.

Inevitably though, the Magic will need Biyombo to develop more offensively. He will need some individual improvement to find a good fit. The Magic as a roster do not quite fit him well if they want to succeed offensively and give him some space to work.

There is the idea of pairing Nikola Vucevic with him and letting him shoot some 3-pointers. I do not like the idea of Vucevic as a 4. He does not have the speed to defense out on the perimeter like modern 4s have to.

Maybe Biyombo can work well with Ibaka who has a decent 3-point shot too and can help spread the floor.

Biyombo is not someone that can be too far from the basket offensively. Outside of a pick and roll, he is not a threat anywhere outside the lane. That means having a shooter on the floor to spread it is imperative.

Green and Gordon simply do not have that right now.
