NBA Position Rankings: Top 10 Small Forwards for 2017
3. Paul George, Indiana
It did not take long for Paul George to answer questions after missing most of the season following his horrific leg fracture. George though stepped in for his first full season and delivered for the Pacers, guiding them back to the Playoffs with a completely different team.
George averaged a career-high 23.1 points per game and returned as efficient as ever with a 49.0 percent effective field goal percentage. That number certainly could continue to rise. It was still solid for a high usage player. He should only continue to get healthier and better.
At the Olympics, George was one of the U.S.’s most reliable and best players, especially on the defensive end. George seems to be back and better than ever.
George’s former coach, Frank Vogel, has said he wants to play Aaron Gordon similar to George. That will be tough. While George did start off as solely a defensive player and shooter, he was always something of a scorer. That was his role at Fresno State.
Vogel may end up using Gordon the same way he used George on the perimeter defensively. But Gordon has a long way to go to reach this height. Having a superstar player like George in the fold makes life easier for everyone.
The Pacers made a lot of changes themselves this offseason, and they have some security knowing George is still one of the best player sin the league.
