Orlando Magic’s top 10 games of the season
By Alex Horvath
#7: vs Cleveland Cavaliers (March 18)
The Magic have not been able to catch a break against the Cleveland Cavaliers, losers of 14 straight against LeBron James‘ new team. The game went down to the very end, after the Magic lost by a total margin of 74 points the last three times these teams faced off.
Victor Oladipo went into beast mode as well, as he was able to drop a career-high 45 points. Hopefully this is the Oladipo the Magic get all next season.
#6: vs. Dallas Mavericks (Feb. 19)
In the first game after the trade deadline, where the Orlando Magic acquired Ersan Ilyasova and Brandon Jennings in exchange for Tobias Harris, the Magic secured a win against the Dallas Mavericks in overtime.
This game served as a glimmer of hope. While fans were confused as to why Harris was traded in exchange for expiring contracts, Ilyasova and Jennings threw on a show. We saw why the trade was made.
That’s just for this game of course, and in the end the trade served as a cap clearing move, which seems a lot better than looking for help, which was short lived.
The Magic handled the Mavericks in overtime, and the game ended with none other than Aaron Gordon flying through the air.
#5: vs. Toronto Raptors (Jan. 14 @ London)
The NBA’s yearly game in London was a win-win for both parties involved.
Although the Magic lost in overtime, the game was highly entertaining to watch, and the international fans were in for a treat. The Victor Oladipo Show aired in England, dropping 27 points and leading the charge for Orlando, until he was stripped in the final seconds of overtime and the Raptors secured the win.
#4: vs. San Antonio Spurs (Feb. 10)
Much like the Warriors game, the Magic were able to keep up with the Spurs, a team that was overlooked even though they made history in their own right.
The Spurs won 67 games this season, and going toe to toe with a team of that caliber surely is an encouraging sign.
The Magic were bound to go to overtime against San Antonio, after Fournier hit a big three to tie the game with 12 seconds left. Then Kawhi Leonard happened, the Spurs drew up an isolation for him, with Aaron Gordon playing great defense, but he made the shot anyway.
The Magic had to inbound with 0.9 seconds left, and they had a great look on a full-court pass and missed.
