2017 Outlook

Nicholson has a plethora of questions surrounding him heading into the off-season. But the one that is for certain is his stock is headed upward after this past season.

Nicholson will be a restricted free agent which gives the Magic the ability to match any contract offer made to him within three days of him signing an offer sheet from another team.

Will the Magic bring Nicholson back? That is a much tougher question to answer.

Nicholson’s future with the team hinges completely on how Orlando’s offseason turns out. If Orlando goes big and ends up with some big-name players, Nicholson will be signing elsewhere. If the Magic end up missing out on big time players, Nicholson definitely still fits this Magic team well.

The Magic do not really have an answer at backup power forward if both Andrew Nicholson and Ersan Illyasova both exit. Nicholson is obviously superior to Illyasova, but he will likely cost Orlando more to retain as teams with a bunch of cap space might feel as though Nicholson could start for their team.

Even if Orlando does not end up retaining Andrew Nicholson’s services, he will have a successful NBA career thanks to his resurgence and improvement this season.
